Blockchain, Beach & Business – Heading to EBC in Barcelona? 1

Two days of innovation, networking and blockchain insights await in Barcelona – and the PayTechLaw authors will be right in the middle of it!

On 16–17 October 2025, the European blockchain community will gather for the 11th European Blockchain Convention (EBC). More than 6,000 participants, over 300 speakers, and two full days of panels, workshops and networking – all in the sunny, coastal setting of Barcelona.

What is the European Blockchain Convention?

The organisers call it “the most influential blockchain event in Europe” – and with good reason. The impressive speaker line-up, the diversity of attendees and the high-quality agenda make the EBC one of the most important industry gatherings of the year.

Our team regularly joins the event to share insights, exchange ideas – and connect with you!

What is the EBC about?

Maxis, builders, regulators, TradFi heavyweights, DeFi degens, VCs and institutional players – everyone’s at the table. The EBC brings together the diverse perspectives of the blockchain world. In panels, startup pitches and personal conversations, one thing becomes clear: the future is being built collaboratively.

Key Topics 2025 – What’s Driving the Industry?

This year’s agenda shows that regulation and innovation are converging. Three core topics stand out:

🔹 Stablecoins – Gaining Regulatory Weight
With the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) implementation underway, stablecoins are taking centre stage as regulated instruments. Discussions at EBC will focus on issuer requirements and their evolving role in the payment ecosystem, in particular double regulation under PSD2.

🔹 Real World Assets (RWA) – The Tokenised Economy
Tokenisation of real-world assets like real estate, bonds or art is becoming an integral part of digital capital markets. Topics include legal structuring, market integration and technical infrastructure.

🔹 MiCAR Licensing – A New Framework for Europe
MiCAR introduces a unified licensing regime across the EU. At EBC, experts will explore the new requirements, transitional periods and practical implications for crypto service providers.

Together, these themes offer a compelling mix for anyone working at the intersection of law and technology in crypto and blockchain.

Three Questions for Kemal Ahmedi – Annerton Lawyer & PayTechLaw Author

Kemal, this will be your first time attending EBC in Barcelona. What are your expectations?

Kemal Ahmedi: EBC brings together a wide range of industry players – that’s what makes it so exciting. As a lawyer, I value the opportunity to absorb different perspectives first-hand: how do founders, investors and regulators approach the current challenges – and their implementation?

You advise a broad range of clients across the crypto space. What value do you see in the in-person exchange at EBC?

Kemal Ahmedi: Direct conversations allow me to better align legal questions with real-world developments. Whether it’s a FinTech, institutional player or crypto startup – everyone operates within an increasingly regulated environment. The discussions at EBC give me a strong sense of how the market is responding.

What are you most looking forward to?

Kemal Ahmedi: The networking – and the conversations that happen away from screens. It’s a different experience to talk face-to-face, whether it’s about specific projects or bigger strategic directions. And of course, I’m looking forward to the city itself: Barcelona in October is a real highlight.
