The term “payee” describes the payment service user who receives a payment amount from the payer as part of a payment transaction. The payee can also be the payer at the same time (for example, if there is a transfer from one account to another, where both accounts are held by the same person). In the case of card payments, the payee is often referred to as the merchant.
