Chargeback

The term “chargeback“ describes the reversal debit of a payment. This means, that the original payer regains the payment amount whilst the original payee is debited with the payment amount via its payment service provider (PSP). There are many different reasons for a chargeback, e.g. denial of the authorization of a payment amount or the failed shipping of a product, which should be paid with the payment amount. In regards to the different payment methods, there are multiple different reasons for a chargeback as well. The term chargeback is often used to represent the reversal debit of a credit card transaction. Return debit is the term mostly used to describe the reversal debit of a direct debit payment.
