🎧 The second episode on the BFSG (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, German Accessibility Act) focuses on the specific tasks for banks and fintechs – listen now:
Comprehensible language, accessible terminals, clear requirements for digital services: Part 2 on the BFSG from Alles Legal – Fintech-Recht kompakt focuses on the practical implementation of the requirements of the Accessibility Act. Podcast host Dana Wondra from Payment & Banking talks again with Annerton lawyer Katharina Wagener about specific requirements for banks and fintech companies – and how they can now position themselves in a legally compliant manner.
Highlights of this episode:
- What specific requirements arise from the BFSG for digital financial products
- Why plain language is legally tricky but indispensable – and how to use it correctly
- How payment terminals and authentication procedures must be designed to be accessible
Last week, the two began by providing an overview of the legal basis of the BFSG. This episode focuses on how banks, fintechs, payment service providers and providers of digital financial products can implement the new requirements in practice.
Among other things, they explain how digital services such as websites and apps must be designed to be accessible in future – for example, through contrasts, voice output or assistive technologies. Particularly challenging is the legally compliant use of so-called plain language, which must be provided in addition to the classic contract language in order to make information understandable for people with cognitive impairments.
Self-service terminals such as payment terminals in shops or restaurants are also a focus. In future, these must offer tactile elements, clear contrasts and audio output, for example via a headphone jack. Further requirements concern accessible authentication procedures, such as two-factor logins, which must be usable by all user groups – without neglecting data protection and security requirements.
This episode makes it clear that early analysis and implementation are now essential. Those who prepare in good time will not only protect themselves legally, but can also use accessibility as an opportunity to reach new target groups.
