“Hackathon” (derived from “hacking” and “marathon”) is the name for an event during which software products are developed to solve a given problem within a certain period of time. The participants work in small, ideally interdisciplinary teams, which come together according to their interest and abilities.

For example, in a legal tech hackathon, lawyers work together with computer programmers to develop a software solution for a legal problem.

The typical duration of a hackathon is 24 – 48 hours. Just like blockchain, the concept of a hackathon is not new: the first one already took place in 1999.
