Interchange fee

The interchange fee is the fee paid for each transaction as part of a payment transaction (e.g. payment by credit card) between the payer’s payment service provider (e.g. the issuer) and the payee’s payment service provider (e.g. the acquirer). The payment can take place in both directions (e.g. from acquirer to issuer or from issuer to acquirer when paying by credit card).
